You can power your room speakers in different ways. In Stereo Mode, the default mode, simply connect your room speakers to the Left and Right Speaker Output connectors on your musicBox multi-room power amplifier.

If you require more power in a room, you can connect your speakers in Bridged Mode. In this mode one zone on your musicBox multi-room power amplifier is used to power the Left speaker, and a second zone is used to power the Right speaker.

In AVR Mode you use your AV Receiver (AVR) and it's speakers to listen to music in the room. In AVR Mode you connect the Pre-Amp Outputs of your musicBox zone to an input on your AVR, for example, the CD input. When you play music in a room configured in AVR mode, the musicBox will control your AVR, powering on the AVR and switching to the specified input when you turn the room on. To configure a room to use this mode, you must specify the AVR Manufacturer, how the AVR will be controlled, the AVR unit number, and which AVR zone the musicBox will use (if your AVR supports multiple zones).

The musicBox can control your AVR using either serial (RS-232) or IP control. We recommend using IP control if your AVR supports it, otherwise you will need to install a USB-to-Serial adapter on your musicBox for each AVR.

The musicBox allows you to connect more than one AV Receiver from the same manufacturer. To differentiate between these units, you must specify a unique unit number for the device, starting at 1. If your AVR is a multi-zone AVR, you can connect a room to each AVR zone, for example, you can connect the Living Room to the AVR Main Zone, and the Master Bedroom to AVR Zone 2. Simply select the AVR Zone to use for a room.

After you have setup and powered on your musicBox, the Configurator will allow you to configure the Serial Port or IP Address to use to control your AVR.

This guide provides simple step-by-step instructions to setup your musicBox 6 system.

Your musicBox 6 system includes the CasaTunes Music Server (music server), one or more CasaTunes Multi-Room Power Amplifier(s) (amplifier), and one keypad hub, six keypads, and an IR remote control per amplifier.

Before making any connections, make sure you disconnect the power cable on your CasaTunes Music Server and CasaTunes Multi-Room Power Ampifier(s).

Let's start by making the connections between the music server and your amplifier. First, let's connect the four audio output streams from your music server to the audio source inputs on your amplifier using the provided 3.5 mm to RCA stereo jack cables, as follows:

Step 1: Connect the lime green output from the music server to source input 1 on the amplifier
Step 2: Connect the black output from the music server to Source Input 2 on the amplifier
Step 3: Connect the orange output from the music server to Source Input 3 on the amplifier
Step 4: Connect the grey output from the music server to Source Input 4 on the amplifier

Now let's complete the remaining music server connections:

Step 5: Connect the provided 9-pin RS-232 or serial cable from your music server to the amplifier
Step 6: Connect your music server to the network using a regular network RJ45 cable (this cable is not provided with your musicBox)

Let's' verify the switches on the amplifier(s) are correctly set.

Step 7: Make sure the master, slave1, slave2 switch is set correctly on the amplifier. This switch is set to master on the amplifier that is powering the speakers in rooms 1-6, it is set to slave1 when powering the speakers in rooms 7-12, and slave2 when powering speakers in room 13-18.
Step 8: Ensure the voltage switch is set to the correct voltage level for your country
Step 9: Ensure the bridged switches are disabled

Now, let's connect your speakers to each room. The first six rooms are connected to the master amplifier, as follows:

Step 10: Connect the expansion cable (provided) from the EXPANSION OUTPUT connector on the master amplifier to the expansion input on the slave1 amplifier

Step 11: Connect the expansion cable (provided) from the EXPANSION OUTPUT connector on the slave1 amplifier to the expansion input on the slave2 amplifier

How to wire a room in "Bridged" mode: Setup a room in bridged mode when you need more power in a room. The tradeoff is each bridged room requires two zones, one for the left speaker, and the other for the right speaker.; Make sure you set the BRIDGED switch to YES, and attach the "bridge" strap for each zone.

Final Step: Connect the power cables to the music server and your power amplifiers, and power on your equipment. Once your CasaTunes Music Server is powered on and ready, the Configure my musicBox button will be activated. Click this button to update the configuration on your CasaTunes Music Server to match this project. You can use this tool to update the configuration on your CasaTunes Music Server at any time.

You must update your musicBox software before you can configure your musicBox.
